Ardentinny is a small Scottish village or hamlet pleasantly situated near the mouth of Loch Long at the entrance to Glen Finart, approximately 14 miles away from the town of Dunoon.

The Caravan site is the former home of HMS Armadillo, a training camp for Royal Naval Commandos. There were many Military training camps in Scotland, particularly in areas not easily accessed by the public. Sited on the site of Glenfinart House, which was requisitioned and designated HMS Armadillo. Initially used as a War Office camp, it transferred to the Royal Navy in 1942, and provided training facilities for Royal Naval Beach Commandos, who should not be confused with Royal Marine Commandos.

The Local Area

Glenfinart Caravan Park provides a great base for exploring the natural beauty and adventure of the Cowal Peninsula. Whether you’re seeking serene landscapes, thrilling activities, or family-friendly attractions, the area surrounding our park offers something for everyone. The hotel and restaurant in Ardentinny is a listed building and is reputed to have been built in the 1700’s when there was a Ferry service between Coulport and Ardentinny. The ferry was based at Coulport, when required a fire was lit on the headland to the South of the hotel when the Ferry needed to be called over. it is also highly likely that cattle and sheep used the Drove Road from the village of Strachur to Ardentinny and the animals made the crossing of Loch Long. Beyond the village there is a small scenic beach and picnic area before the road winds inland ‘O’er the Hill to Whistlefield on the shores of Loch Eck.
